It has been busy at Planet OConnor, but I wanted to let everyone know that I have been booked to do this month’s SIT n SPIN show on Thursday April 18th – 8:00pm at the Comedy Central Stage at the Hudson Theater. 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. LA CA 90038. As always, tickets to this show are FREE, but you have to call and reserve them in advance (the number is: 323.960.5519.) oh, and there is even plenty of FREE street parking after 7:00pm
This will be my 5th appearance on this show. It is always a good time. Come on out. Did I mention that it is FREE?
In other news, sales of my ASK A PUNK eBook continue to come in, and readership of the relaunched weekly advice column is slowly increasing. Thanks and welcome to all new readers.
Yesterday, for the first time in over three and a half years, I did not put up a new weekly post on my ASK A PUNK advice blog. I have put the blog on what I’m calling ‘active hiatus’ for a while. The reasons for this decision are fully explained in last week’s post… the final one for now. Meanwhile my Another LA Cartoon blog will continue with weekly posts every Thursday morning, and the occasional bonus post every once in a while.
In other news, a quick look at my calendar of upcoming shows (over there in the right-hand column) will tell you that I have several reading/essay shows coming up in the next few weeks. I’m always thrilled to get the chance to tell some of my stories on both new and familiar stages. The more I rework these stories, the better idea I get of how they all fit together (or don’t.) I’m starting to look at ways to put all the stories together into one long form piece, even longer than the original ‘A Punk’s Tale’ one-man show. We’ll see what I come up with. I’ll add the project to the list. ha. While it is always good to have more ideas than time to execute them, it can be frustrating too.
…and speaking of shows, I recently posted a video clip from my latest performance at “Sit n’ Spin” on the Comedy Central Stage at the Hudson (LA) on my page over at Funny or Die. If you have a few minutes click the picture below and go check it out… and vote: “Funny.” Thanks.
So far, I’m booked to do two “readings” shows in the month of May. This week I’ll be telling a story at bang. as part of the monthly ‘Pinata’ show, and on the 27th I’ll be rolling East to Highland Park to tell a story (or two) at the monthly ‘Porchlight’ reading series. I’m very excited about both shows.
I’ve been enjoying the month of March so far, partially because I have managed to crack a few new stages. I started the month at the delightful Story Salon at Coffee Fix in the valley, hosted by the amazing Beverly and last week I got to throw down a story at The MOTH at Busby’s… The Moth is a storytelling show/project that is spreading all over the country. It was a great time – about 100 people in the audience, great story tellers and a good vibe. They actually have judges and each story is ‘scored’…which was a little intimidating, but I managed to take second place, missing out on the win by just 0.2 points… I’ll be going back for sure. …plus: It looks like my Moth performance might have gotten me invited to yet another storytelling show, this one on the Eastside… details to follow when I know them.
Improv-wise I have been digging the weekly alumni jams at bang (where else?) and last weekend’s “S&BJ Day” show was, as expected a hilarious and debased good time. It always feels reassuring to have a run of a few good improv sets in a row… especially when I’m about to start teaching another “level 4” class next week.
Have a safe Saint Patrick’s Day everyone.
